Martial Arts:the Health Kick

Martial Arts are hot, but its not self-defense that's the big draw now--its the fitness payoff. According to a report in Longevity magazine, a lot of men see martial arts as an alternatives to aerobics classes. They reported on a study from Adolph university that found that karate has the same cardiovascular benefits as low-impact aerobics . Most self-defense discipline involves constant movement --consecutive kicks, punches, grappling--which is the key to heart-and-lung conditioning and calorie burning. As the more vigorous the moves, the calories burned--up to 1000 calories an hour. The arts also build strength and flexibility for a well-rounded workout.
